Artangel's board of trustees is ultimately responsible for the governance of the organisation, which is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
Andrew Haigh
Andrew joined the Artangel board in 2024 and is Chair of the Finance and Investments Committee. He has had an international career in the finance sector, alongside over 20 years experience in governance roles in the arts and higher education sectors with institutions such as the Chisenhale Gallery, the Photographers Gallery and the Royal College of Music. He currently also serves as a lay member of Council at the University of Hull and as a Governor of the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. In 2022, he was awarded an MBE for services to the arts.
Marcus Coates is an award-winning artist living and working in London. His critically-acclaimed 2022 film series, The Directors, was created in collaboration with Artangel. Internationally recognised and collected, he was nominated for the 4th Plinth Commission in 2014 and was the recipient of a Paul Hamyln Award in 2008. In 2014 Marcus was the first recipient of the James Lovelock Commission and in 2009 he won the inaugural Daiwa Art Prize. Marcus Coates is represented by Kate MacGarry, London.
Caroline Issa is the Artangel Chair (since 2025)and the Chief Executive and Fashion Director of TANK Magazine, publishing the quarterly print magazine since 2002. TANK also works as a creative agency producing advertising campaigns, cultural programming, digital strategy and content for established luxury fashion, retail and hospitality brands as well. In addition to collaborations and brand consultancy, she can frequently be found as a jury member for prizes such as the Hyères Festival and BFC NewGen and Scholarship Prizes. She served as the External Examiner for Central Saint Martins' MA Journalism and Fashion Promotion courses between 2015 and 2018, was the Undergraduate Mentor for Fashion Design diploma at Polimoda University in Florence for 2 years and has sat on the Board of Trustees for the British Fashion Council since 2022.
Tony Phillips is an experienced radio and podcast executive, a former CCO at Broccoli Content, VP at WNYC Studios in New York and Commissioning Editor at BBC World Service and Radio 4. He is the Founder and Director of audio production company Sea Salt and Mango, clients include WNYC Studios in New York, BBC Radio, Princeton University and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Jemma Read
Jemma is Global Head of Corporate Philanthropy at Bloomberg LP, managing a team responsible for developing and driving Bloomberg's Global philanthropic programming and initiatives in education, environment, human services, arts and culture. Over the last 20 years at Bloomberg, Jemma has overseen a wide range of global cultural initiatives including exhibition sponsorships, public art commissions, audience access programs, the Creative Land Trust and the Bloomberg Connects digital program. Jemma helped to establish Bloomberg Space in 2002 and is now director of London Mithraeum Bloomberg Space. Jemma is proud to serve on the Digital Advisory Board of the National Gallery and the UK Board of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. Jemma also sits on the Advisory Boards of a number of the UK's leading arts and cultural organisations, including the Creative Industries Federation, the Serpentine Galleries, and the Women of the World Committee at the Southbank Centre.
Harjot Singh
Harjot Singh is an award winning advertising executive with a proven, global track record. Most drawn to people shaped by their interest in constant discovery, learning and open mindedness, Harjot is unwavering in his belief that creativity is the world’s most powerful resource.
For over 25 years, Harjot has held senior, management roles in North America, Asia, and Europe, working with some of the most well-known creative agencies in the world, and advising many of the world’s most successful brands and corporations across every category and sector; from packaged good, to banking, cars, retail, telco, beauty, fashion, and the public sector.
Harjot is currently Global Chief Strategy Officer for McCann Worldgroup, a global advertising agency network with offices in 120 countries. He is also non- executive director of an economic development consultancy with worldwide operations and a trustee of the British History of Advertising Trust.
Emma McNally is an artist living and working in London. In 2021 she collaborated with Artangel for ‘Afterness’ on Orford Ness. She made a single large-scale graphite drawing on paper, approximately nine metres in length, for the Armoury, a building once used to house elements of the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment. In 2024 she developed an installation, ‘The Earth is Knot Flat,’ for a solo presentation at Drawing Room, London. She attempts to radically disrupt the conventions of drawing to explore questions of rhythm, inseparability and entanglement. She has exhibited internationally.
