Over the past two decades, Artangel has invited artists to share ambitious ideas through a number of open calls. The resulting commissions have been ground-breaking with works in performance, film, installation, audio and digital mediums being presented in unexpected places in the UK including under a mountain in Scotland and a quarried island off the Dorset coast, to name a few.
In March of 2025, Artangel invited artists based anywhere in the world to submit their most daring idea, which could manifest in the UK or elsewhere. We received over 1,000 submissions from 80 countries, with diverse ideas touching on everything from the world’s youngest desert to an imaginary post-apocalyptic band.
A list of longlisted artists has now been published. You can read a summary of their ideas and follow their practice via their linked websites and social media.
Shortlisted artists are included in the list, where the artist received a £2000 bursary to work on their idea.
