“I wanted to play with the thing that had become common to all our lives: quiet manipulation, distortion, isolation…” - Jay Bernard

Last year Artangel launched The Last X Years by Jay Bernard, a digital artwork examining people’s memories of 2016 and the referendum. Today Artangel launches a new podcast mini-series that teases out the themes of the The Last X Years.

Bernard introduces the podcast with an exploration into the civic role of the poet. They say, "The poet once had a social role in making meaning and acting as a witness… now this role is less clear, though the desire for meaning is just as intense as it ever was."

In this new series, artists, researchers and journalists discuss the intersection of democracy and technology, themes drawn from Bernard’s digital artwork.

The episodes feature discussions across three panels that originally streamed live in March 2026. Now available on demand, each episode includes new introductions by the series host, artist and human rights researcher, Caroline Sinders.

Listen now to all three episodes as they uncover what really happened in the Cambridge Analytica Scandal, how 2016 signalled the loss of our digital innocence, why people’s data became part of a much bigger story, and what our online futures might look like.
